Welcome to my website.
My name is Jeff Davies and I've been a speedway fan all of my life and a speedway photographer since 1984.
As a young boy, I always wanted to be a speedway rider but instead, took up Trials Riding when I was older. When I retired from riding, I took up photography, starting with a Russian camera, the Zenith 'E'. As I got into it, I upgraded my equipment and now have the latest Canon cameras and range of lenses.
I first began taking pictures at Grass Track meetings and spent hours in my darkroom developing and printing my pictures. I used to sell the prints to the riders and one day, showed some of my pictures to Martin Ochiltree, son of Charles Ochiltree the Coventry promoter. They were a bit 'different' and he rather liked them, inviting me to take some pictures at Brandon in 1984. I've been there ever since!
Today of course, photography is digital and processing the pictures is all done on computer - so much easier than in a darkroom with temperature controlled chemicals! I'm not the best photographer in the world but I work hard at it. Every single picture I take is processed in Photoshop and this is perhaps where I have an advantage over other speedway photographers, as I've been using Photoshop for more than 20 years so know my way around the software, consequently getting the best out of my pictures.
I enjoy doing creative stuff with my pictures. I'm not naturally creative but do my best and create pictures the riders seem to like, as every year, many of the world's top riders come to me for pictures to present to their sponsors. Some of them are included in the montage gallery.
Sadly, my local track Coventry closed down at the end of 2016. It was incredibly sad for me personally as I'd been going there all my life. I decided I had to try and do something about it, so got a group of people together with a similar passion for speedway (or stock car racing). We formed Save Coventry Speedway campaign group and have been working tirelessly to get the sports back to Brandon. Time will tell if we are successful but if we're not, it won't be for lack of trying.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy my website. If you have any questions, get in touch.
